Born in Minori on the Amalfi Coast, Gennaro is known as the Italian legend who taught Jamie Oliver all he knows about Italian cooking. He still works with Jamie on the hugely successful chain Jamie’s Italian, designing and sourcing the menu along with training the staff, ensuring they live up to his high, Italian standards.
Gennaro’s TV credits include two series of Two Greedy Italians with Antonio Carluccio for BBC2. He also has a channel on Jamie Oliver's Food Tube and is a regular on the main Food Tube channel. Gennaro is set to film a new series for Channel 4 with Jamie in Italy, which will be on TV later this year.
The Italian chef also regularly appears as an Italian food expert and top chef on Saturday Kitchen. He has also appeared on Jamie and Jimmy's Friday Night Feast and Jamie’s Italian Christmas.
Gennaro’s first cookbook — named after his former award-winning restaurant Passione — was originally published in 2003 (it was re-released by Pavilion Books in 2017), and named ‘Best Italian Cuisine Book’ at the World Gourmand Cookbook Awards. It was also was shortlisted for the André Simon Food & Drink Awards. He also co-wrote two BBC tie-in cookbooks for the television series Two Greedy Italians with Antonio Carluccio, which sold more than 100,000 copies. The series has been broadcast in 10 territories around the world and the book has been translated into a number of different languages.
Gennaro’s current release is Fast Cook Italian (Pavilion Books, 2018). His forthcoming cookbook, Pasta Perfecto, will publish in September 2019.
Over the past few years, Gennaro has been working with Citalia, creating recipes for its YouTube channels.
