Mandy Yin
Mandy Yin is Malaysian-born Chinese of Peranakan Nyonya heritage. After moving to London from Kuala Lumpur aged 11, Yin studied and pursued a career in corporate law before turning to food. Throughout her life, Yin charted the recipes her mother cooked, meticulously writing down the ingredients for the family dishes they enjoyed for years. She’s taken this knowledge to her own restaurant, Sambal Shiok Laksa Bar in London, which she opened in 2013 and continues to run today. Yin’s first book, Sambal Shiok — featuring staples such as curry laksa, Malaysian fried chicken and flaky roti canai — was published by Quadrille in 2021.
